honoring our past

Beginning

The year was 1939, and 17 people from Pensacola First Assembly gathered. As they stood on the northwest corner of Desoto & Y Street they heard the Lord’s call to bring the Pentecostal message to the community of Brownsville.

Growth

As the church grew more facilities were needed.  The church saw the building of sanctuaries on three locations in Brownsville.  The original on the corner of Desoto & Y St. Then the construction of the two-story Christian Education facility during the 1950’s.  On the west end of the C.E. building, the church constructed another worship sanctuary, during the 1970’s.  Lastly, during the 1980’s the church purchased the 1938 Brownsville Elementary school across the street on the south side of Desoto.  By 1991 the current sanctuary was built in the playground of the old school, and the school buildings were renovated.

Revival!

On Father’s Day, 1995, Steve Hill an evangelist and missionary spoke.  At the end of the service, the Holy Spirit descended and the Brownsville Revival commenced.

Evangelist, Steve Hill, Pastor John Kilpatrick, and Worship Leader Lindell Cooley, led the revival.  Night after night the sanctuary filled to capacity with people from all over the U.S., and from around the world.  In the course of six years, from 1995 to 2001; 5 million people came through the doors to be touched by His powerful presence.  This move of God, has now become the longest and largest local church revival in U.S. history.

Revival Prophecy of Dr. David Yongii Cho

In 1993, Dr. David Yonggi Cho, pastor of the Yoido Full Gospel Church, Seoul, Korea, the world's largest church, conducted a meeting in Seattle, Washington. As he prayed for revival in America, he questioned, "God are you going to send revival to America, or is she destined for judgment?" The Lord instructed him to get a map of America.

He did so, and the Holy Spirit told him to point his finger at the map. As he did, he felt his finger drawn to the Florida panhandle and to the city of Pensacola. "I am going to send revival to the seaside city of Pensacola, and it will spread like a fire until all of America has been consumed by it," said the Lord to Dr. Cho.

Brownsville Post Revival Services

In October, 2003, John Kilpatrick resigned as Pastor of Brownsville.  Associate Pastor, Randy Felschau became the pastor.  When he resigned in 2006 the church called Dr. Evon Horton to serve as the pastor.  He was currently serving as President of Master’s College and Seminary in Canada.

When COVID hit in 2020, Brownsville served over 2 million pounds of relief goods to the community, dedicated a $17 million Affordable Seniors Housing Facility with 88 apartments, called Brownsville Manor.  Today Brownsville continues its ministry in the community, fulfilling the vision of the original 17 charter members for a Pentecostal church in Brownsville.

The church is praying and believing for the 3rd Great Awakening!
